UBU Republika

REPUBLIKA UBU is devised collaboratively and is a performance that incorporates new and old media and technologies, devices to engage the senses and audience interaction. This project is a saga revolving around the character of Ubu set in a contemporary world. It explores through the use multi-disciplinary live outdoor performance notions of democracy, the transmission of information and the perception and mediation of reality.

The play Ubu Roi, from the trilogy written by Alfred Jarry in the late eighteen hundreds, draws its inspiration from Shakespeare's Macbeth and tells the tale of a heinous man called Ubu who wants to claim the crown of Poland for his own. Full of ridiculous and illogical incident, vulgarity and violence and, of course rooted firmly in 'pataphysics', playwright Alfred Jarry's very own fabricated science of imaginary solutions.
